The Hayward Unified School District has 23 Elementary schools, 5 Middle schools, 3 High schools, an Alternative High School, English Language Center, Adult Education Center and child care centers for pre-school children. Hayward Unified School District has over 20,000 students in grades K-12.  The student population is 53 percent Latino, 11 percent White, 16 percent African American, 8 percent Asian, 7 percent Filipino, 4 percent Pacific Islander and 1 percent Native American/Alaska Native.

Hayward Unified School District is taking on environmental issues.  They have started a year-round emphasis on a Service Learning Waste Reduction Program. Hayward Unified School District has strong ties to its community partners.  HUSD feels it is important to partner with the community, parents, and the district to build
