The Poway Unified School District is located in northern San Diego County, California and encompasses an area of 100 square miles including schools in suburban San Diego and the rural city of Poway. Poway Unified School District operates 22 elementary (Kindergarten to Grade 5), six middle schools (Grades 6 to 8), four comprehensive high schools (Grades 9 to 12) and one continuation high school. Poway Unified School District has 21 schools located in the city of San Diego and 11 in the city of Poway.
Poway Unified School District’s mission statement is “To ensure that each student will master the knowledge and develop the skills and attitudes essential for success in school and in a diverse society”. The Poway Unified School District maintains the core values of all students learning, a caring and competent staff, parents as partners, staff participation in the decision-making process, effective management of resources, a safe, orderly and attractive environment and excellences in all they do.

Poway Unified School District was the first to offer online high school classes, instituting 10 courses that can be taken online. The drop out rate for the Poway Unified School District is one of the lowest in the county and more than 90 per cent of the graduates from the Poway Unified School District attend college. More than 55 per cent of the certified staff members have a Masters degree plus 30 or more credits.
The Poway Unified School District serves approximately 33,000 students and is the third largest school district in San Diego County.
