The Tucson Unified School District encompasses the entire Tucson community. The Tucson Unified District School District has a number of neighborhood schools for parents to choose from focused on academic excellence, with a core belief that classroom is the core of the learning system.

 

Run by a governing board, with input from the faculty, community and students, the Tucson Unified School District’s missions says that in partnership with the aforementioned entities, students will receive a well-rounded, comprehensive education. The combination of the governing board and the superintendent is a step towards better serving the district as a whole.

 

The Tucson Unified School District strives to operate within the boundaries of professional learning communities, which allows students to focus on excelling to the highest limits academically and having the tools to operate in a real world environment. By putting this emphasis on academics, the Tucson Unified School District maintains high-test scores and a large percentage of students who graduate to the next grade level.

As with any other school district, Tucson Unified School District has identified neighborhood zones and when it is time for parents to choose a school for their children, they are encouraged to attend the neighborhood school, though any Tucson Unified school is available.

 

The unique aspect of unified school districts is that they often are the combination of small towns, cities, various counties or any sort of unincorporated areas. For example, the Tucson Unified School District has the San Xavier Indian Reservation within its boundaries.
